Information about BASPCAN
BASPCAN is an Association for professionals and volunteers who can demonstrate active participation or interest in the aims of the Association. It is a unique organisation which brings together personnel from all agencies who work in the field with children in need, and with those who are abused and neglected.
The Association is established to protect children from suffering, or likelihood of suffering, significant harm, ill-treatment, impairment of health or impairment of development by the encouragement and promotion of any methods, services and facilities calculated to safeguard and promote the welfare of such children. It aims to educate and inform the public at large and in particular, but not exclusively, those persons professionally qualified in any relevant field in all aspects and effects of abuse and neglect on children generally. We do this by multi-disciplinary collaboration and education
Membership is open to all with an interest in or working in the field of child protection. Members are drawn from social work, medicine, psychology, psychiatry, nursing, legal and law enforcement agencies, probation, education and academic fields, as well as related welfare and voluntary groups throughout the world.
A prime objective of the Association is to provide high quality and up to date training for our members in a variety of ways. National and regional study days, conferences, seminars and discussions are held throughout the year as well as a National Congress which is held every three years. This event attracts an international audience.
