The Branch holds meetings and successful evening seminars at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital. These seminars and day conferences have attracted high calibre speakers; the Branch encourages all professionals in the area support their local events.

This Branch seeks to be inclusive running peer support groups and training across the wide area from Brighton and Hove to Poole. The last training event dealt with the effects of adult mental health on adolescents. New members to join the committee are always welcome.

Scotland

The branch exists to serve those members of BASPCAN who reside in Scotland and to promote the principles and values of BASPCAN in Scotland. Scottish-based members are eligible to elect the branch governing committee and office-bearers. This election takes place at the branch AGM held on the same day as the Annual Conference.

The Branch hosts various seminars on topical themes. For example the last event held on 12 February 2016 was a joint event with NIASW where Dr Peter Sidebotham from Warwick University was the invited keynote speaker to give two presentations on ‘Learning from Serious and Fatal Maltreatment’ and ‘Getting Smarter about Preventing Child Deaths: Learning from Child Death Review’.

We hold half-day conferences three to four times a year around the country. Each conference has an identifying theme with three/four high profile keynote speakers. These have been well attended with over 100 people attending and the opportunity to gain CPD points.

Wales

Events are held across the whole of Wales and have in the past, had the excellent speakers attracting large numbers of attendees. The Branch works closely with local LSCB’s. The Welsh Branch promotes bringing presentations back to Wales, encouraging members to get together for the benefit of Welsh members.
