Thank you to everyone who joined us at the University of Warwick in April for BASPCAN’s 10th International Congress ‘Thinking outside of the box: innovative perspectives on protecting children and young people’. We had a great event with four days of stimulating speakers, discussion of ideas, and sharing of research and practice. In particular we have had excellent feedback about the involvement of real stories from people directly affected in various ways by the child protection system; our thanks go to all those who spoke so honestly about their experiences. Another popular element was the inclusion of the arts in amongst the scientific and research content. Delegates were deeply affected by the work of our artist in residence, Harry Venning, and our poet, Claire Shaw. The recognition of the human emotional element of child protection work is something that resonated with many of our delegates and has certainly given us at BASPCAN food for thought about the needs of the professionals working in this difficult field, and how we can support them.

We are still collating feedback and presentations and will publish those for which we have permission in due course. Sign up to our newsletter below to receive details of future events, or email conferences@baspcan.org.uk if you would like to deliver training for BASPCAN or find out more about other ways to become involved.
